Jacquie L. Ponsford Named Professional of the Year in ESL Education
Celebrating her 38th year as a teacher, Ms. Ponsford uses her broad range of experience to promote adult programs
BRUSH, CO, July 6, 2011 /Post Graduate PR News/ --Jacquie L. Ponsford, Lifetime Teacher and Adult English as a Second Language Teacher at Morgan Community College, has been named a Professional of the Year by Cambridge Who's Who for showing dedication, leadership and excellence in ESL education.
Ms. Ponsford has experienced and adapted to changes in the field of education since 1971 and met with triumphant success as a result. Having taught first-, second- and fourth-grade students, high-school English as a second language students, and elementary English as a second language students, she retains a far-ranging perspective on student aptitudes and needs inside the classroom. An advocate against the No Child Left Behind act, Ms. Ponsford believes that government control over public schools is hindering the educational careers of its pupils. She thinks standardized testing gives the state a "one-day snapshot" of the knowledge that the students possess, which does not accurately reflect their capacities for success.
In her current position, Ms. Ponsford demonstrates a teaching approach derived from 12 years of experience as an English as a second language instructor. "I changed to ESL because I felt that this area of education fit who I am as a teacher," she explains in her most recent interview with Cambridge Who's Who. Though adult education programs require more funding, Ms. Ponsford makes the best of her resources and imparts communication skills to her adult students to facilitate their merge with society. Valuing her own education, Ms. Ponsford completed 60 graduate-level credits after earning a Bachelor of Arts in education from Western State College of Colorado in 1971. Looking forward, she intends to complete a literacy instruction authorization endorsement credential to round out her capacities in the field, and continue teaching at the college level.
